Following the decision to relocate the prison from the Sennhof to Cazis in 2020, the Canton of Graubünden initiated an investor competition in 2018. The goal of this competition was to find the best concept for the new use of the building complex. The winning project was "Kontinuum" by the investor "Einfache Gesellschaft Sennhof," consisting of Brandis Investment AG in Maienfeld and Miro Immo AG in Chur. The architectural firm Ritter Schumacher AG in Chur planned the renovation and new construction of the area.

A central aspect of "Kontinuum" was to preserve the historic tower, the arch-shaped building, and the structures along Sennhofstrasse. The planners believed that this would make the new area an extension of the old town. Opening the courtyard toward the vineyard made it feel much more spacious. The investors saw the new residential building as a seamless extension of the existing structures, creating a continuum that connects the old and the new. The new Sennhof was not intended to become just a residential district or a purely commercial area but a lively city within the city, with restaurants, shops, residential spaces, and cultural venues.
